The growing trend of filming short clips of our unhoused and addicted brothers and sisters in the inner city feels deeply unsettling. These videos often strip away dignity, when what we should be seeing—really seeing—is the sorrow of so many souls who feel lost, discarded, and overwhelmed by pain they never chose. Many didn’t set out seeking addiction; they were searching for relief from unbearable hurt.

The answer is not to shame or criminalize their suffering—it is to reach out, to lift, to offer the steady warmth of compassion and real support. The way we care for the most vulnerable among us writes the story our children will inherit.

Cutting off lifelines like education and Public Broadcasting only deepens the shadows of ignorance and division. That’s not a future rooted in love, but in fear and greed.

So today, may we resist selfishness. May we plant seeds of empathy, even when it’s uncomfortable. Let the golden rule guide us—do not cause harm you would not bear. Wherever you are, whoever you are—turn the love switch on. Let it light the way forward.
