Why I Choose to Create with AI

People occasionally ask why I choose to create with AI.
The answer is simple.

Not because I lack imagination—
but because my imagination has always exceeded my resources.

For most of my life, I’ve carried songs I couldn’t yet hear, paintings I couldn’t yet paint, films I couldn’t yet produce, conversations I couldn’t yet have, and entire worlds that existed only in the quiet places of my heart.

To bring those visions into the world once required an orchestra of musicians, producers, engineers, illustrators, editors, studios, assistants, and budgets far beyond anything an independent artist like me could ever afford.
For years, many of those ideas remained just that—
possibilities.

Not because they lacked value.

But because I lacked the means to give them form.
Today, I live in a remarkable moment in history.

I can sit quietly with a poem…
a memory…
a melody…
a photograph…
a question…
or a fleeting glimpse of inspiration…
and begin exploring what it wants to become.

To me,
that feels nothing short of miraculous.
Some people imagine that AI creates for me.
It doesn’t.

I don’t ask AI to tell me who I am.

I don’t ask it what to believe.

I don’t ask it to replace my imagination.

I ask it to help me hear the music that’s been living inside me for decades.

I ask it to help me see the landscapes I’ve carried in my mind.

I ask it to help me explore ideas that otherwise might never leave the silence.

Every song begins with…
my lived experience.
My poetry.
My memories.
My questions.
My wonder.
My joy.
My grief.
My hope.

AI doesn’t provide those things.
It helps me give them shape.

Years ago, my creative path was deeply influenced through my experiences at Allen Ginsberg’s farm and the Committee on Poetry.

There I learned that art isn’t merely about technique.
It’s about paying attention.
It’s about listening deeply enough to recognize something true…
and having the courage to share it.

That lesson has never left me.
The tools have changed.
The intention hasn’t.

For me, AI is no different than a camera…
a piano…
a recording studio…
or a paintbrush.
It’s an instrument.
A collaborator.
A bridge between imagination and manifestation.

At Bearz Signal, I often return to one simple phrase:
Presence, not mimicry.

I’m not interested in becoming someone else’s voice.

I’m interested in discovering my own.

I don’t hope people leave thinking about AI.

I hope they leave thinking about love.

About beauty.

About forgiveness.

About wonder.

About the mystery of being alive.

I hope they feel something.

I hope they remember something.

I hope another part of themselves quietly answers.
Because I believe every genuine work of art is a signal.

One heart reaching outward…
hoping another heart recognizes its frequency.
If that happens…
the technology has already disappeared.

Only the human connection remains.

I’m profoundly grateful to live in a time when these tools exist.

Not because they make creativity effortless.
But because they allow independent artists, dreamers, poets, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, and storytellers to explore ideas that otherwise might never find their way into the world.

The vision has always been there.

The signal has always been there.

Today,
I simply have better ways to help it find its way home.
With gratitude…

To every musician whose songs inspired me…
To every poet whose words gave me courage…
To every artist who taught me to see…

To every engineer, programmer, researcher, designer, and dreamer whose work helped make these tools possible…
Thank you.

You have given one independent artist the opportunity to hear music that once lived only in silence…
and to share it with others.

I don’t take that gift for granted.
I hope I use it with humility.
I hope I use it with gratitude.
I hope I use it in service of beauty…
wonder…
and human connection.

Poetry leads. AI follows.

Presence, not mimicry.

Bear your heart.
With gratitude,
